    EDI 997 - Functional Acknowledgment

The EDI 997 confirms that an EDI document was received and whether it could be syntactically processed.

    What Is the EDI 997?

The EDI 997 Functional Acknowledgment is an automated receipt that confirms an EDI document was received by the trading partner's system. It indicates whether the document was syntactically valid and could be processed - it does not confirm business-level acceptance.

    997 Response Codes

The 997 uses specific codes to indicate processing status:

    • A (Accepted) - The document was received and passed syntax validation.
    • E (Accepted with Errors) - The document was received but contains non-fatal errors.
    • R (Rejected) - The document failed validation and could not be processed.
    • P (Partially Accepted) - Some transaction sets were accepted, others rejected.

    Monitoring 997s

Monitoring 997 responses is essential for EDI operations. A missing 997 may indicate transmission failure, while rejected 997s require immediate investigation. Yoke Integration's platform automatically tracks 997s and alerts you to any issues.
